Training Update

Tough night tonight. We went for a run (picked up the pace a little – we knocked 5 minutes off our time) and then did 2 sets of weights (10 Reps each).

Run:
4.3 Miles (uphill route) in 40 minutes

Weights:
2 Sets of Weights, 2 Sets of Body Exercise. No breaks – straight through
Dumbbells – 3 KG + Bar

Set:
10 X Side Lats – Weights
10 X Burpees – Body Exercise
10 X Curls – Weights
10 X Abs – Body Exercise
10 X Tricep Raise – Weights
10 X Twists – Body Exercise
10 X Bent-Over Rolls – Weights
10 X Squat Thrust Alternate Leg
10 X Calf Raise – Weights
10 X Squats – Body Exercise
10 X Shoulder Press – Weights
10 X Dorsal Raise – Body Exercise
10 X Front Raisers – Weights
10 X Pluto Sniffs – Body Exercise (weird Manchester exercise)
10 X Hammer Curls – Weights
10 X Squat Thrusts (combined) – Body Exercise
10 X Tricep Raise – Weights
10 X Press-Ups – Body Exercise

10 X Lunges – Body Exercise

This was a tough one. The run was actually pretty good. I felt a bit stiff on the start but I think it was the first run where I actually felt pretty loose and in pretty good running form. I was pretty relaxed on the run, and I felt like I was pushing a tougher pace than normal.

The weights were tough – particularly after a run, but we pushed to get it all done. It was really the second set that was the killer – my arms felt like falling off.

Tomorrow it’s a boxing night with an exercise circuit, followed by Squash on Wednesday night.

Mark and I did our first foray into weights. We took it easy as I haven’t done any weights in a long time, and we need to see how much we can do before we push it too hard:

Weight: 4 KG Dumb-bells
Reps: 10,9,8,7,6,7,8,9,10

Good run this morning with Mark. I had to take yesterday off because my legs needed sorting, but we did the hard run today. 4.5 Miles with a decent hill.

After the run we headed up into town and bought a set of dumbells, so we can start to do that on a weekly basis.

Good fun tonight. Played Brendan and we made a decent showing of it. Moved around the court OK, but  a little slower than I’d like. We managed to end whilst I was 2-1 up.

Also walked 5 miles today.

I’ve just finished a workout with Mark. Due to my painful running experience this weekend, we decided to push ourselves with a CV boxing circuit:

3 Minutes Boxing

3 Mins Boxing
1 Min Squats
3 Min Boxing
1 Min Abs
3 Minutes Boxing

Pretty tough. For an added bonus, Mark decided to throw in a curve-ball in the last four rounds and insist we had to spend the last 30 seconds of each boxing round in constant punching. As hard as we could manage. 30 seconds of continuous hard punching is brutal. I can attest to that.

Good workout tonight. Mark and went out around 18:15 and did an hour’s worth:

4.3 Mile run – new route around Granton, up to Ferry road and back down Craighall. Brutal up-hill bit took the wind out of both of us but we pressed it home.

3X 1 min Squats
3X 1 min Abs
3X 1 min Press-Ups

We’re boxing on Saturday as well.

Excellent effort last night on the squash court. I was playing MP for the third time and managed to win 3-1. That made me happy as I felt I was a bit slower than normal, but my shot selection was a lot better. He’s a quick guy, and he’s going to be a great player as his stamina and fitness is really high.

But I won.

Should be running tonight and doing some circuits. Oof. My legs need a break!

I really do have to get better at filling all of this out as I get on with things.

Last night had another good squash workout with DA. I won again, but I can tell it’s only a matter of time before he gets an awful lot fitter and his (far superior) technique gets the better of me. Guess I’d better get a move on those lessons…

I’ve got another match with MP tonight. Our last two have been fantastic – really high energy and very competitive. We’ve both moved up in the leagues, and we’re in the same league again. Should be a tough one.

Oof. What a weekend. The end of last week was a bit strange. I had a lot of business dinners and lunches, so I wasn’t able to get much training done. In fact I had to take Thursday and Friday off.

I made up for it on Saturday and Sunday. ;-)

Squash today. Played Ali Ross from the club. Was a bit stiff but moved well for the first match (not so well for the second). Pretty good speed and overall good play.
